Ukraine's foreign minister: EU to lift visas "in coming months"
Pavlo Klimkin

The EU will grant Ukraine visa-free status in the coming months, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said in his opening speech to the 12th meeting of Ukraine's top foreign diplomats in Kyiv on 22 August.

"After we are granted the EU visa-free regime [...] we are working to make it happen in the coming months. For me, it is not a technical process of ensuring an opportunity of visa-free travel to the EU. For me, it is a recognition of Ukraine's and Ukrainians' involvement in the European project and traditions," he said.

In his words, once Ukraine is granted visa-free status by the EU, its citizens will be able to travel to almost 100 countries of the world without visas.

Earlier, Klimkin said that Ukraine had doubled the issuance of visas to foreigners over the past six months.
