Ukraine slid to 85th place in the annual index of competitiveness compiled by the World Economic Forum (WEF), against 79th place a year before.

The top five countries in the list: Switzerland, Singapore, the USA, the Netherlands and Germany keep holding the lead.

Meanwhile, Russia inched two steps up to 43th place.

The ranking embraces 138 countries. WEF Global Competitiveness Index includes 12 indicators of competitiveness and is compiled annually since 1979 on the basis of publicly available information, and takes into account the viewpoints of several thousand experts from over 100 countries worldwide.

Earlier, Ukraine ranked 135th in the ranking of economic freedom.
