President Petro Poroshenko on 30 August met the delegation of the US Congress headed by the chair of the Subcommittee on Foreign Policy, Foreign Operations and Related Programs of the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives, Harold Rogers.

Poroshenko, as quoted by his press office, urged the USA to consider a possible increase in allocations to assistance programmes for Ukraine on security issues, including the provision of defensive weapons, as well as the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian servicemen.

Members of the Congress assured him that the USA will continue to politically and financially support Ukraine in its struggle to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity, and hailed reform efforts of the Ukrainian authorities.

The president expressed hope that the US congressmen would support Ukraine's efforts aimed at the US official recognition of the 1932-1933 Holodomor (famine) in Ukraine as genocide.

The USA has spent 600m dollars on the training of Ukrainian military and logistic support since 2014.
