The introduction of international legal mechanisms to compensate for the damage caused to Ukraine as a result of russia's armed aggression was discussed during a meeting chaired by the Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak, - reported by the OP website.

In particular, the proposed concept of concluding an international agreement with partner countries to establish a mechanism for compensation for damages caused by russia was discussed on the event. It is noted that such a path will bring closer the solution of the issue of russia's responsibility for aggression on the territory of Ukraine and compensate for losses.

"Given russia's behavior in fulfilling its international obligations, some countries are already addressing the issue of limiting russia's sovereign immunity, and the task of the Ukrainian side is to confirm the causal link between russia's actions and the damage caused," the statement said.

"This is a global work that will be done by many people. So I would like the Office of the President to ensure effective coordination of this work," the press service quoted Yermak’s words.

Adviser to the Minister of Justice Iryna Mudra explained that the consideration of relevant cases in the European Court of Human Rights may take several years, the execution of such court decisions is not automatic and can only take place with the consent of the other party. An appeal to the UN International Court of Justice is also quite problematic, as it can establish russia's liability, but not compensation for damages. As a result of the coordination meeting, it was decided to establish a working group at the level of the Office of the President, which will include government representatives, international legal advisers, diplomats and experts.

Yermak suggested deciding on the personnel of this coordination working group as soon as possible and starting work.

On April 11, the Ministry of Justice together with the Office of the President set up a working group to implement a mechanism for effective compensation for losses caused to Ukraine by the russian occupiers.

According to the Kyiv School of Economics, as of April 1, Ukraine suffered $68 billion in destruction due to Russian aggression.
