The russian occupiers do not allow repairs to be carried out at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. Kherson and a number of villages near Nova Kakhovka are threatened with flooding.

This was announced during a briefing at the Media Center "Ukraine" by Deputy Chief of the Main Operations Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksiy Gromov.

According to him, russia's attack and seizure of nuclear infrastructure, namely the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plants, as well as the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, is a direct violation of Article 56 of the Additional Protocol to the 1949 Geneva Conventions "Protection of Hazardous Installations forces ".

In addition, in violation of the provisions of the above-mentioned protocol, hostile district and administrative control posts were deployed on or in the immediate vicinity of these facilities.

Thus, one of the control points of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the russian federation, as well as the 49th Army of the Occupiers, is currently deployed at the Kakhovka HPP.

As Gromov stressed, the occupiers are not making any efforts to keep the captured facilities in a safe condition, which could lead to an environmental catastrophe.

"Currently, large volumes of water are being dumped at the occupied Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, as two hydro units are not working, which the occupiers do not allow to repair. This has already led to partial flooding of Nova Kakhovka - embankment and city park. He said.

Mikhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the head of the President's Office, reacted to a statement by the occupying Kherson authorities regarding their intention to "join russia." He stressed that the Ukrainian army will definitely liberate the city.
