A court has sentenced two members of an FSB sabotage and reconnaissance group to life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained them in the Kyiv Region in June 2024.
As reported on the agency’s website, a third offender from the same cell was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation found that the group’s members operated in different regions of Ukraine under the direction of an officer from the Russian security service. Acting on his instructions, the traitors tracked energy and military infrastructure sites to prepare Russian missile strikes, and also searched for and recruited new spotters and perpetrators of terrorist attacks.
The group’s organiser was identified as a resident of Obukhiv district in Kyiv Region, whom the enemy recruited through anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram. He later brought his brother and another relative into cooperation with Russia. Together, the traitors set fire to equipment at four electrical substations in the Kyiv Region and planned to derail a Ukrzaliznytsia freight train.
SBU officers detained all three offenders while they were still preparing the railway sabotage. During searches, officers seized seven pistols with ammunition, combat grenades, drugs and smartphones containing evidence of contact with the FSB.
The court found the detainees guilty of high treason and sabotage under martial law, committed by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy, as well as illegal handling of weapons and possession of drugs.
