Moldova is preparing a note of protest to the Russian Federation over Moscow’s plans to open additional polling stations in the unrecognised Transnistria during elections to the Russian State Duma.
Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi said this, TV8 reports.
“We are preparing a note of protest to the Russian mission in Chisinau, as we learned of plans to open more polling stations on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for elections in the Russian Federation than were authorised,” Popșoi said.
According to the head of Moldova’s Foreign Ministry, the Russian side was permitted to open only one polling station — on the premises of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau.
“Any other polling station opened without the permission of the constitutional authorities is an unfriendly step,” Popșoi stressed.
Earlier, the leader of the unrecognised Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselskiy, said that in September Russia plans to open 17 polling stations in the region for voting in elections to the Russian State Duma. According to him, around 220,000 Russian citizens live in Transnistria.
- The Kremlin has set the task of ensuring turnout in Ukraine’s occupied territories during the “elections” to the Russian State Duma at more than 65–70%, and also securing at least 70% support for United Russia.
