In the area of Vyshneve in Zaporizhzhya Region, on 1 September, strike drones hit the antenna and equipment unit of the Russian Kasta radar station. The strike was confirmed on the basis of objective monitoring results.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The radar in question is the Kasta-2E2 (39N6), a mobile three-coordinate station of Russian manufacture. It is designed to detect and track aerial targets at low and extremely low altitudes, determine their coordinates and transmit information to air-defence command posts.
The station is capable of detecting aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and drones, including those flying at low altitude.
The radar’s surveillance range is from 5 to 150 km, and in altitude terms up to 6 km. The station can detect small-sized UAVs at an altitude of 60 metres at a distance of 30–44 km, depending on the height of the antenna mast. It can be raised to a height of up to 50 metres.
The estimated cost of such a station, depending on its configuration, starts at $60 million.
