Some of the warehouses in Kyiv Region damaged by Russian strikes stored products of organic origin. Due to the destruction, there are significant volumes of damaged goods and waste that must be removed quickly and safely.
This was reported by the head of the Regional Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, who described the task as a challenge for the region. Previously, the region had not faced simultaneous damage to so many warehouses and such volumes of products.
“That is why today we are working to ensure that emergencies do not escalate into an environmental disaster,” he said.
Tkachenko held a meeting with representatives of the environmental inspectorate, communities, businesses, the State Emergency Service and other services.
“The aim is to define a specific step-by-step action plan, set clear deadlines and those responsible. From inspection and determining the type of waste to its safe collection, sorting, removal, processing or disposal,” Tymur Tkachenko added.
Work is under way to introduce in the region an algorithm for handling organic waste left after enemy attacks. The relevant decisions are being prepared to be put to the current meeting of the Defence Council and the meeting of the regional commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations. A working group will also be set up with representatives of enterprises, district state administrations and the responsible services.
