On 4 September, joint military exercises “Fire Shield” began in Moldova and will run until 19 September. Servicemen from Moldova, Romania and the United States are taking part.

The exercises involve infantry and artillery units of Moldova’s National Army, representatives of the General Inspectorate of Carabineers of Moldova’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, troops from the Romanian Army and the US North Carolina National Guard.
The aim of the drills is to improve operational interoperability between the three countries’ armed forces. They will take place at training centres of military units in garrisons in northern, central and southern Moldova.
Moldova’s Ministry of Defence warned citizens about the movement of military equipment on national roads to the training centres. It will be redeployed at night to avoid disrupting traffic.
The US Embassy in Moldova said the exercises, led by the Moldovan side, help strengthen the country’s defence capabilities, improve operational readiness and enhance coordination between the National Army’s штаб structures.
