US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner plan to visit Moscow and Kyiv this weekend for talks on ending the war.
Axios reports this, citing US officials.
It is known that on Saturday the special envoys will hold talks in the Kremlin with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and on Sunday they will meet in Kyiv with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This will be the first visit to Kyiv by representatives of the Trump administration.
On the eve of the trip, Witkoff and Kushner discussed the upcoming visit with Donald Trump at the White House.
- At the end of July, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported that Trump’s special representative Steven Witkoff and the US President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner had agreed to visit Kyiv for the first time. The visit was scheduled for August 2026, but was postponed due to intensified Russian missile and drone attacks on the capital.
- Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Witkoff and Kushner about stepping up efforts to end the Russia–Ukraine war. After that, the Ukrainian head of state was able to discuss the issue in person with Trump during a visit to Washington.
- Zelenskyy had previously repeatedly pointed out the unfairness of the fact that Trump’s negotiators regularly travelled to Moscow, but had not once been to Ukraine to see the situation in our country with their own eyes.
- In an interview with The New York Times, the head of the Presidential Office, Kyrylo Budanov, stressed that the process in the peace talks would begin with a visit to Kyiv by the US administration’s special representative for peace, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
