Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha received the US Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in Ukraine, Paul Houston.
As the Foreign Ministry’s press service reported, Sybiha and Houston discussed the war in Ukraine and efforts to achieve peace, the US role in this process, as well as strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia.
In addition, the diplomats’ meeting also covered the development of mutually beneficial economic co-operation, energy security, and the situation in the Black Sea.
- On the same day, Houston met with the head of the Office of the President, Kyrylo Budanov.
- Before his appointment to Ukraine, the new chargé d’affaires represented US interests in Niger.
- Previously, he worked as a senior official at the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, and earlier held leadership roles at US diplomatic missions in Germany, Jordan, Haiti, Serbia, and at the US Mission to the UN in Geneva.
- Houston’s predecessor in the post in Ukraine was Sandra Oudkirk.
