During the night of 5 September, the Russian army carried out demonstrative strikes on airports in Kyiv and Boryspil for the first time in a long while. Five people were killed in strikes on Kamianske.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this.

“Tonight in Kamianske, in the Dnipro region, the Russians struck a civilian enterprise. They killed four people, and another five were injured. My condolences to their families and loved ones. In many regions, ordinary residential buildings have been damaged — in Kherson, Boryspil and the Kharkiv region. In Sumy and Mykolaiv, drones struck shopping centres,” the statement said.

The President said Russia struck not only civilian infrastructure and residential buildings, but also airports in Kyiv and Boryspil.

“There were also demonstrative Russian strikes on our airports overnight — in Kyiv and in Boryspil. Deliberately, for the first time in a long while,” Zelenskyy wrote.

He said these attacks could be the Kremlin’s response to discussions and preparations for the possibility of the American side using an aircraft to travel to Ukraine and land at either Kyiv or Boryspil airport.

“Russian-Iranian Shaheds in response to American diplomacy,” the President noted.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine has recorded this step by Russia and will accordingly adjust its operation regarding Russian airspace next week.

The President stressed that Russia has made that airspace dangerous because of the presence of drones and missiles in the sky.

Zelenskyy underlined that Ukraine does not pose threats to diplomatic efforts.

“Of course, from our side there are no threats to diplomacy and there will not be. Ukraine is interested in bringing peace closer. Russia will be held accountable for what it does. Thank you to everyone who is helping our state and Ukrainians,” he stressed.
