On 5 September, a temporary local ceasefire was declared near the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, brokered by the IAEA, to carry out repair work on a damaged power transmission line. The plant has been without external power since 20 August and is using emergency diesel generators.
The IAEA reported this on X.
"Another local ceasefire, brokered by the IAEA, has come into effect to enable repairs to the power lines needed to restore external electricity supplies to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after a prolonged outage," the agency said.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi noted that both sides had worked constructively with the agency to ensure nuclear safety.
"Under the temporary ceasefire around the damaged power transmission line, Ukrainian technical specialists will begin repairing the line today after the area has been cleared of mines," the IAEA statement said.

Due to military action on the northern bank of the Dnipro, on 20 August the plant lost its connection to the last available 330 kV power line, Feroplavna-1.
Since then, the Zaporizhzhia plant has been using emergency diesel generators to provide cooling for its six reactors and spent fuel pools.
The IAEA warns that diesel fuel stocks at the plant are running down. If external power supplies cannot be restored or additional fuel is not delivered to the Zaporizhzhia plant, there could be a risk of a complete loss of power within a few days.
According to the IAEA, the current agreement is the seventh local ceasefire brokered by the agency to carry out work related to nuclear safety.
