National security advisers from France, the United Kingdom and Germany will take part in talks in Kyiv with US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on 6 September. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this following the first two rounds of negotiations, LB’s correspondent reports.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the US team for coming to Ukraine.

“We are very grateful for everything. Thank you to the United States for its support, and to President Trump for allowing you to be here, in Ukraine. After the meeting in the Russian Federation, it was very important for us that President Trump’s chief negotiators are in Ukraine today. We have already held two panel discussions,” he said.

The President also expressed his gratitude that Europeans would be taking part in the third round.

“It is very important to do everything so that this war ends. Here we are all on the same side; we very much want there to be no war and no suffering,” the head of state added, stressing that the war must end with a just peace.

After the negotiations conclude, there will be a press briefing.

Talks with the United States

Last year and at the start of this year, Ukraine, the United States and Russia held trilateral talks aimed at working out terms for a ceasefire and, subsequently, for ending the war. A significant outcome of the meetings was the resumption of prisoner exchanges, but it was not possible to reach consensus on the military and political track. Russia is demanding the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire territory of Donbas. Washington had proposed establishing a buffer zone there. Ukraine is категорично against handing over its land to Russia.

After the start of the US and Israeli operation against Iran, the trilateral meetings were suspended. Witkoff and Kushner flew to Moscow, but not to Kyiv. This visit is their first. They arrived in Ukraine after meeting Putin in Russia on 5 September.
