Securing results in talks on ending the war between Russia and Ukraine is very important for the United States. Special envoy Steve Witkoff said this at a briefing after talks in Kyiv on 6 September.
He thanked them for the opportunity to visit Ukraine. Witkoff had previously visited Moscow many times, but until today had never travelled to Ukraine.
“The President asked Jared and me to come here and restart the talks. Because this is very important to him. And on his behalf, on behalf of the Vice President, on behalf of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, we are here. And I think we have a good feeling about what has happened — both the talks in Moscow and here,” he said.
Witkoff said he expects to make further visits to the “good people” of Ukraine. He praised Ukrainians’ bravery.
“Your team did a very good job,” the special envoy added.
Alongside Witkoff and Kushner, a representative of the National Security Office and the “right-hand man” of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also arrived in Kyiv today.
