During the night and morning of 17 October, Russian forces attacked energy facilities in the Vinnytsia, Volyn, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Odesa, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi and Kharkiv regions. As a result of the shelling, some consumers were left without electricity supply.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

According to the ministry, power engineers have already managed to restore electricity supply for more than 500,000 consumers. Repair work is continuing in all regions where the security situation allows.

At the same time, restoration efforts are being hampered by constant air-raid alerts and the threat of repeated Russian strikes.

Due to grid constraints caused by previous attacks, hourly electricity outage schedules are in place in a number of regions of Ukraine. In addition, capacity restriction schedules are being applied for industry and businesses in all regions.

The Energy Ministry explains that these measures are necessary to avoid overloading the grids and to prevent large-scale accidents.

Up-to-date outage schedules are published on the official resources of regional distribution system operators.

  • As a result of Russian shelling, a blackout occurred in Vinnytsia. The city was left without electricity and water supply. The Regional Military Administration described the Russian attack as one of the largest-scale.
