Yesterday, 16 October, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Rustem Umerov, held talks with the American negotiator Jared Kushner. They discussed the next meeting, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists in audio comments on 17 October.
He said he was ready to take part in the meetings personally. Such a meeting could have taken place in Brussels on the sidelines of the EU leaders’ summit, but the American side was unable to make it.
“But I think this week they will find an opportunity and we will find an opportunity to meet. We support the possibility of dialogue; we support everything to stop Putin — at least an energy ceasefire. Ideally, this war should be ended completely — you have to start somewhere,” he said.
The President once again confirmed that new meetings between Ukraine and the United States are planned.
- The previous meeting of the Ukrainian and American negotiating teams took place on 9 October in the United States. The meeting was supposed to last two days; however, that day the US President unexpectedly announced an agreement with Russia on supplies of its diesel. Ukraine had not been warned about this.
