Over the course of 17 October, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 157 strike drones and six S-8000 “Banderol”/“Dan-T” missiles. Ukraine’s air defences shot down or suppressed 140 UAVs and all six missiles.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this.

Among the drones used by Russia in the attack were 25 jet-powered models. Of these, 22 were shot down or suppressed. The attack also involved “Gerbera” drones and UAVs of other types.

As of 22:00, around 30 strike drones remained in Ukraine’s airspace. The Air Force urged citizens not to ignore air-raid alerts.

  • On 17 October, Ukraine launched a new feature in the “Air Raid Alert” app — a map showing the approximate movement of Russian missiles and drones. It displays the estimated location and direction of travel of certain types of aerial targets, including cruise missiles, “Banderol” missiles and Shahed drones.
  • The Ministry of Defence stresses that the map does not show exact coordinates and does not operate in real time. Information may arrive with a delay, and some threats, including ballistic missiles, are not displayed.
