In Lithuania, unknown individuals tried to set fire to a facility where Starlink satellite internet equipment is stored. The attack was averted thanks to an early warning from Lithuania’s security services and increased protection at the site.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius reported this on Facebook.
According to him, this is already the third attempt in the past month to damage Starlink infrastructure in Europe, following incidents in Poland and Bulgaria. Such cases may point to targeted attacks on satellite communications, which are of particular importance for Ukraine.
In addition, in the morning an unidentified drone flew over Lithuania. Sinkevicius said the authorities must determine whether the flight was an act of sabotage.
Because of the drone incident, the Prime Minister has convened a meeting of the National Security Commission for 19 October. Lithuanian services are to establish where the drone came from, when it was first detected by radar, and what the results of the examination of the debris will show.
The meeting will also consider expanding the powers of Lithuanian services to neutralise drones.
