Kenyan authorities have confirmed four new cases of Ebola infection, including three healthcare workers.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said, as reported by Bloomberg.

The total number of confirmed cases in the country has risen to seven, including one death. The fourth newly identified patient was a family member of the first patient, who died earlier.

All four patients had been in quarantine as contacts. They are now receiving supportive treatment at a specialised facility.

Kenyan health workers have already traced and isolated 128 of the 130 identified contacts and are continuing to search for two more people. The authorities stress that there are currently no signs of the virus spreading among the wider population.

  • The country’s first-ever Ebola case was recorded earlier this month. A Kenyan citizen infected with the Bundibugyo strain flew to Nairobi from Uganda, which he had entered from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  • Screening at the airport found no symptoms in the man, but he was later admitted to a private hospital, where he died a few days later.
