On the night of 22 October, 12 Ukrainian regions came under Russian attack. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged partners to bolster air defences.

“From the evening, Russian ‘humanitarians’ launched three waves of ballistic strikes on Kyiv. They used 21 missiles. Sadly, the city has a significant number of hits and damage: ordinary homes, the energy sector, infrastructure at one of the railway stations and the metro, shopping centres, businesses. Among the damaged sites there is even a monastery,” he said, adding that emergency services are working everywhere.

In Kyiv and the regions, 34 people were injured, including five children. As of now, two deaths have been confirmed.

Zelenskyy noted that, in effect, almost immediately after the latest talks, Russia carried out a demonstrative strike.

“This means there are no real changes in its attitude to everything that is happening. It remains important to keep trying to find the right solutions to end this war. But when Russian ballistic missiles are the response to talks, real pressure on Russia is needed so that there are different steps — steps towards stopping the killings. Strengthening air defences and the rapid supply of missiles, the ability to destroy ballistic missile launchers, sanctions for the war — all of this must happen,” Zelenskyy stressed, adding that the aggressor deserves an appropriate response.
