The court has handed down another sentence to a member of a Russian agent-combat group that the Security Service of Ukraine neutralised in the Kharkiv region in the summer of 2024.
As the SBU press service reported, at the time law enforcement officers detained four suspects involved in blowing up a Ukrainian defender’s vehicle; the explosion left him seriously injured.
In August this year, the defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. Now he has received a similar term — 15 years’ imprisonment — for destroying two Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinets by fire.
The SBU said the Russian special services recruited the perpetrator, an ordinary labourer from the outskirts of Kharkiv, through an acquaintance who was a militant from the so-called “DPR special forces”. To attack the railway infrastructure, the man bought a flammable liquid and poured it over electrical equipment.
In light of the new evidence, the court punished the agent for attempted sabotage under martial law.
