President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Norway on 20 October, where he will hold a series of meetings. In particular, trilateral talks are scheduled with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb.
There will also be a bilateral meeting with US negotiator Steve Witkoff. The Ukrainian president’s press service reported this.
In addition, a meeting will take place between Zelensky, Stubb, Støre and Witkoff.
“I will also have an audience with Norway’s King Haakon VIII and a meeting with the Storting. We are not stopping any contacts that could help bring peace. We will also talk about strengthening our air defences and joint production. I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine and a достойний path to peace,” Volodymyr Zelensky commented.
On 9 October, talks took place in the United States between the Ukrainian delegation, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. During the talks, the American leader unexpectedly announced a diesel deal with Russia. After that, the Ukrainian team headed home, but contacts with the American side continued remotely.
The current meeting with Witkoff will take place against the backdrop of restrictions on the speed of Starlink use by the Ukrainian military, a partial suspension of warnings about ballistic strikes, and an overall escalation in Washington’s rhetoric against Ukraine.
