In Brandenburg, Germany’s criminal police have detained a Ukrainian citizen suspected of collecting information for Russian intelligence.
Law enforcement officers carried out the arrest on the basis of a warrant issued in mid-October, European Pravda reports. Investigators believe that, since at least the summer of 2025, the man had been in contact with representatives of the Russian special services via an intermediary.
The detainee gathered classified information on Germany’s defence industry and the Alliance’s military facilities. In particular, he was interested in data on the production of ammunition, explosives and armoured vehicles, as well as information about units that ensure the security of NATO’s eastern flank. Some of the information he found in open sources, while the rest he obtained from employees of European defence companies.
Der Spiegel journalists found that the suspect was particularly interested in the Bundeswehr’s 45th Armoured Brigade, which is planned to be fully redeployed to Lithuania.
In the near future, an investigating judge will issue an arrest order and remand the suspect in custody for the duration of the investigation.
- In recent days, a cadet at the Military Medical Academy in Łódź, who holds both Polish and Ukrainian citizenship, was detained in Poland. The man is suspected of espionage.
