US President’s adviser Jared Kushner described yesterday’s talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow as “constructive and substantive”. At a briefing after the talks in Kyiv, he said they had discussed ideas that have not worked so far, Yevropeyska Pravda reports.
Kushner described the dialogue as productive. He said it focused on the elements needed for a sustainable peace.
“And what exactly Russia can gain from this, what Ukraine can gain, and what the world can gain. And it was a very productive dialogue,” he said.
Jared Kushner hopes progress can be made towards resuming trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
“We put forward quite a few new ideas which, in my view, could be useful for this process, and I hope we will be able to develop them,” he added.
Kushner added that Donald Trump is constantly monitoring what is happening and working to end the war and develop a framework for a lasting peace.
“Over these days there has been no shelling either in Kyiv or in Moscow, and that is already good,” he said.
- The current visit to Kyiv by US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner is their first. The day before, they visited Moscow, although US representatives have travelled there on multiple occasions.
- Following the talks in Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the territorial issue remains relevant. With the United States, as well as national security advisers from Germany, France and the United Kingdom, they discussed air defence, a winter support package and further diplomatic meetings. A new meeting together with the United States and European countries could take place in a few weeks.
