Ending the war in Ukraine before winter is not guaranteed, believes US President’s adviser Jared Kushner. At a briefing after talks in Kyiv, he assured that the United States is doing everything possible to make it happen, Yevropeyska Pravda reports.
Answering a question about whether he considers ending the war in Ukraine possible this autumn, he said it is a very, very difficult task. But efforts will be made.
“And I think that if we manage it, it will be simply incredible. That does not mean we will necessarily achieve it, but trying is very important. So we will keep doing it,” he said.
A lot of work is being done behind the scenes, and it is problematic, but Kushner hopes for a result. All the conversations with partners help to see avenues that can be developed.
Kushner noted that they prefer a trilateral format for the talks, and that they “do not argue with the Russians about Ukrainians, or with Ukrainians about Russians”.
- The current visit to Kyiv by US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner is their first. The day before, they visited Moscow, although US representatives have travelled there on multiple occasions.
- Following the talks in Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the territorial issue remains relevant. Air defence, a winter support package and further diplomatic meetings were discussed with the United States, as well as national security advisers from Germany, France and the United Kingdom. A new meeting with the United States and European countries may take place in a few weeks.
