Dron, Puzik, Tsilyk: Warsaw to Host Launch of Essay Collection by Ukrainian Writers

Warsaw will host the launch of Four Seasons of War, a collection of texts by Ukrainian women and men writers published in Dwutygodnik since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The collection’s compiler and editor, Vira Baldyniuk, reported this on her Facebook page.

According to the description, the book is an archive of the experience of war seen from within, and at the same time a testament to the extraordinary work of its women and men authors: the work of preserving sensitivity, language and their own humanity. Stories about shelters and cities destroyed by bombardment sit alongside accounts of apple orchards, flowers, theatre and literature—everything that helps you get through another day and does not allow war to define the whole of human experience.

The book includes stories by Sofia Andrukhovych, Olena Apchel, Kateryna Botanova, Milena Khomchenko, Liia Dostlieva, Artur Dron, Oksana Forostyna, Olena Liubenko, Tania Maliarchuk, Yevheniia Nesterovych, Valerii Puzik, Volodymyr Rafieienko, Bohdana Romantsova, Ivanna Skyba-Yakubova, Iryna Tsilyk, Yurko Vovkohon, Zoia Zvyniatskivska, and Viktoriia Narizhna.

The afterword was written by Andrzej Stasiuk, and the postscript by Serhii Zhadan.

Translations of the texts are by Katarzyna Fischer, Katarzyna Kotyńska, Elżbieta Marszałek, Marcin Haczkowski, Joanna Majewska-Grabowska, and Iwona Boruszkowska.

The book was published thanks to Dom Spotkań z Historią, and some of the texts were created with the support of the Ukrainian Institute.
