On 13 October, the UN General Assembly elected Ukraine to the Human Rights Council.
This was reported by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN.
“We managed to secure the support of 162 (!) states! This is a real breakthrough, without any exaggeration! It is a genuine record of support at the UN, which our small but professional diplomatic team worked on for more than a year,” the statement on the mission’s Facebook page said.
The Human Rights Council is the leading institution within the entire UN system that ensures the protection of human rights worldwide, the mission stressed.
