The Agrafka creative studio, which includes artists Romana Romanyshyn and Andriy Lesiv, has been nominated for the 2027 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) in the “Illustrators” category. This is reported on the ALMA website.
ALMA is an annual Swedish prize recognising achievements in children’s and young adult literature, established by the Swedish government in honour of children’s author Astrid Lindgren in 2002. It honours writers, illustrators, storytellers and organisations from around the world for works of high artistic quality that reflect the humanist ideals and values embodied in Astrid Lindgren’s writing. The award aims to increase interest in children’s and young adult literature and make it more accessible.
“This is our first nomination and an incredible honour! We sincerely thank the organisation that nominated us!” the studio shared.
In total, 227 candidates from 80 countries and regions have been nominated for the prize. They include authors, illustrators, storytellers and those who promote reading. The laureate will be announced on 6 April 2027. They will be selected by an expert jury of 20 members. The winner will receive an award of five million Swedish kronor (around UAH 22,319,665).
The prize is administered by the Swedish Arts Council (the Swedish Arts Council).
