European Parliament Vice-President Pina Picierno has agreed to end the hunger strike she launched in support of Oleshky, which is occupied by Russia.
This was reported by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
According to him, the hunger strike had begun to pose a serious threat to Picierno’s life and health. At the same time, the parties managed to make important progress on ensuring humanitarian assistance for Oleshky residents and creating conditions for the evacuation of civilians.
During the conversation, Lubinets informed Picierno about agreements on a local ceasefire, facilitated by US First Lady Melania Trump. These agreements provide for demining the road to Oleshky, delivering food, water, medicines and equipment for the hospital, as well as safe movement for civilians.
The Ombudsman assured the European Parliament Vice-President that he would keep her informed about the implementation of these agreements, and thanked her for her stance and support for Ukrainians under occupation.
- Russia and Ukraine agreed to temporarily halt hostilities in Oleshky in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson Region, to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and prepare the evacuation of civilians via a safe corridor.
- The local ceasefire is due to begin on 29 October.
- About 1,700 people remain trapped in the destroyed city, and Russia is trying to turn the settlement into a deadly trap.
- Ukraine has repeatedly called for safe evacuation and international humanitarian access. Russia ignored these calls.
