Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi spoke by phone with his Romanian counterpart, Luca Niculescu. It was their first conversation since Niculescu’s appointment to the post.
The head of government wrote about it on Telegram.
The politicians discussed a Russian strike on a civilian vessel near Romania’s coast, which killed one Ukrainian sailor, injured four, left three missing, and saw six rescued.
“I thanked Romania for its principled stance and clear condemnation of this crime, which is a gross violation of international law and freedom of navigation,” Koretskyi wrote.
They also spoke about defence, energy and logistics. The countries want to speed up projects that will increase rail capacity, develop transport along river routes and raise freight throughput.
“I proposed to my Romanian counterpart that we establish co-operation in the format of intergovernmental consultations. This format has already proved its effectiveness in co-operation with other countries,” the Prime Minister said, adding that he had invited Niculescu to Kyiv.
