The 2030 World Weightlifting Championships will be held in Moscow. The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) reported this on its official website.
"All the bids we received were excellent, and we are confident that the championships in your countries will be a great success. This shows that our sport is developing worldwide, and hosting our competitions is something many countries around the globe want," said IWF Secretary General Jose Quinones.
In the summer, the federation fully reinstated the rights of Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in events under its auspices. Initially, the IWF revoked neutral status for weightlifters from Russia and Belarus at youth level, and in June the restrictions were extended to all age groups.
On 7 May this year, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee recommended lifting all sanctions against Belarus in international sport.
On 7 July, the IOC reinstated the rights of the Russian Olympic Committee and called for the ban on Russian athletes taking part in competitions to be lifted. In addition, the ban on holding sporting events in Russia was lifted.
