All land crossings between Israel and the West Bank will be closed during parliamentary elections on Tuesday.
This was reported by DW, citing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
From today, Palestinians have been banned from “entering Israeli communities in Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley for work”.
The army added that it is imposing “a ban on the entry and exit of Palestinian workers, as well as the closure of all land crossings” for the duration of the parliamentary election day on 27 October.
Yesterday, the Israeli military launched a large-scale operation in the Palestinian city of Hebron in the West Bank following the deaths of two Israeli soldiers in a shooting. Three more soldiers were wounded in the attack. Two suspected attackers were killed.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas welcomed the attack but did not claim responsibility for carrying it out.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the closure of the occupied West Bank and ordered preparations to demolish an entire neighbourhood where the two attackers had lived.
- Violence by settlers is rising in the West Bank, and since the start of the year dozens of Palestinians have been killed in the territory.
- Parliamentary elections will be held in Israel on 27 October — the first since 2019 and since Hamas’s attacks on 7 October.
