Ukraine has contracted 42m doses of Covid-19 vaccines to be supplied by the end of the year and will need around 5m doses more, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has said on the air of Ukrayina 24 TV.

Ukraine will help India badly affected by the coronavirus, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said at a meeting with Serum Institute of India CEO Cyrus Poonawalla. Zelenskyy also suggested the Indian company consider cooperation with Ukrainian partners to produce drugs, including against Covid-19.

Sumy Region will be the last to leave the red coronavirus zone as of 8 May, meaning Ukraine will be leaving the third wave of the pandemic behind, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has said.

Donbas

Ukraine has registered seven ceasefire violations by the Russian occupying forces since midnight. They fired 120-mm and 82-mm mortars, handheld anti-tank grenade launchers and heavy machine-guns near Pisky. Other ceasefire violations were registered near Verkhnyotoretske, Nevelske, Avdiyivka and Pivdenne.

On 6 May, the separatists breached the truce 16 times. Two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and one heavily wounded.

The foreign ministers of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg visited the Joint Forces Operation area and the Shchastya checkpoint on the line of contact in Luhansk Region on 6 May, the State Border Service has said.

On the morning of 7 May, Ukraine logged 8,404 new Covid-19 cases.

Human rights

Oleksiy Chyrniy, who was detained as part of the Oleh Sentsov case, has been released after serving a seven-year sentence, according to ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova. Like Crimean activist and director Sentsov and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko, he was charged with "preparing terrorist acts in Crimea". He was illegally held in several heightened security penal colonies in Russia.

Economy

Police in Popasna, Luhansk Region have opened a case after 14 miners called in an underground strike, protesting against the non-payment of their wages. According to trade union leader Mykhaylo Volynets, the strike at the Hirska mine has been under way for two days.

The debt of regional gas distribution companies to the Ukrainian Gas Transport System Operator has reached 9.8bn hryvnyas, the company's press service has said.

Survey

A third of adults in Ukraine do not consume alcohol at all, another third drinks it less than once a month, a survey carried out by the Rating pollster on 25-27 April has found out.
