It will take the Ukrainian Armed Forces about three weeks to learn how to use

HIMARS [High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems], which the United States will hand over to Ukraine, - reported by washingtonpost.com with reference to US Deputy Secretary of State for Defense Policy Colin Kahl.

"Weapons deployed by the US military to destroy militants during the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria will allow Ukrainian forces to quickly and accurately launch several missiles at russian artillery and troops," the statement said.

These installations will be the most advanced weapons provided to Ukraine by the Biden administration since russia's invasion on February 24.

"Ukrainian officials had been requesting them for about two months without approval, prompting frustration in both Kyiv and Washington," the newspaper said.

The rocket systems transfer was approved after Ukraine assured the Biden administration that it will not use them to launch cross-border attacks on Russia, Kahl said.

The administration also decided to send munitions the HIMARS can launch that have a range of about 45 miles, rather than the long-range Advanced Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) that can reach up to 186 miles, limiting how Ukraine can use the weapons.

On June 1, US President Joe Biden confirmed that his administration was sending advanced medium-range missile systems to Ukraine. Advanced weapons are part of a new $ 700 million military aid package.

According to the US Army, missiles fired from HIMARS have a range of about 43 miles. Currently, the Ukrainian military uses the russian version of this system.
