Children, Interior Ministry leadership killed in helicopter crash in Brovary (updated)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs' leadership was killed as a result of a helicopter crash in Brovary. These are the Minister, the First Deputy Minister and the State Secretary, the Head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, said on Telegram.

As of 2 p.m., 17 people have been reported dead, the State Emergency Service said. The body of one more dead child was found - the fourth. According to the updated data, 25 people (including 11 children) were injured and hospitalized.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in addition to the ministry's leadership, the Deputy Head of the Interior Ministry's Patronage Service, Tetyana Shutyak, the Head of the Protection Division of the Internal Security Department of the National Police, Lieutenant Colonel Mykhaylo Pavlushko, the Leading Inspector of the Communication Department of the Interior Ministry, Mykola Anatskyy, the aircraft commander and instructor of the Special Forces helicopter squadron, Oleksandr Vasylenko, the pilot of the Special Forces helicopter squadron, Kostyantyn Kovalenko, and Ivan Kasyanov, an onboard mechanic of a special-purpose helicopter squadron, a warrant officer of the Civil Defence Service, were killed.

As of 10:30 a.m., 18 people were killed, including three children, said Oleksiy Kuleba, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.

The helicopter crashed near a kindergarten and a residential building. It hit the building of the kindergarten but fell further.

According to the Deputy Head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the helicopter carrying the Minister of Internal Affairs was heading to the hot spot of hostilities. The causes of the tragedy are being investigated.

"A State Emergency Service helicopter crashed. There were nine people on board. Among them are Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyy, First Deputy Yevhen Yenin, as well as the State Secretary of the Ministry," National Police spokeswoman Maryana Reva said.

"We have information about 29 wounded, including 15 children. The victims are being provided with all necessary assistance," he said on Telegram.

According to the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Kirill Tymoshenko, the flight with Monastyrskyy was headed to a hot spot of hostilities. The causes of the tragedy are being investigated.

Of the 18 victims, nine were on board the helicopter, and the rest were children and adults in or near the kindergarten. Twenty-nine people were injured, including 15 children.

The preliminary causes of the crash are being investigated.
