The U.S. Department of Defence has ordered AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) guided air-to-air missiles from Raytheon, states the department's website.
Raytheon Missiles and Defence, Tucson, Arizona, signed a contract for an indefinite number of deliveries worth $192mn.
The contract provides for the purchase of AMRAAM from various sources.
The contract is valid until 29 November, 2024.
Funds are allocated from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
AMRAAMs are guided missiles that are the main weapon for US fighter jets. They have a range of 55 to 160 km, depending on the modification.
The Netherlands, Romania, and the fighter jet manufacturer have agreed to establish an F-16 pilot training center. Lockheed Martin will
provide training and maintenance.
