The most intense directions remain Pokrovsk and Dobropillya. Next in terms of intensity is Novopavlivka.
The counteroffensive operation continues. It is very difficult but “very timely,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a meeting with journalists on 8 October.
One of the main achievements of the counteroffensive is the disruption of the Russia’s plans, which it had communicated to the United States – the occupation of most of Donbas by November. Initially, the Russians were planning to capture it by September.
“We believe that this operation has thwarted Russia’s summer offensive campaign. Since the start of the Dobropillya operation, we have recorded more than 12,000 Russian casualties, including over 7,000 killed since August 21, when this operation began,” the President said.
The Kremlin has ordered the military to urgently seize Pokrovsk at any cost. In recent days, Russian losses have reached 100–200 personnel per day.
In the Kupyansk direction, Special Operations Forces, the SBU’s “A” Special Operations Centre and assault troops continue to carry out countermeasures.
In the Zaporizhzhya direction, according to the Commander-in-Chief, there have been no changes.
“There are very intense operations in the Novopavlivka direction. Probably, after Dobropillya and Pokrovsk, our next major challenge currently is Novopavlivka direction. What do we have there? We have four Russian Federation armies, which either had fire control over the area or there was some presence of sabotage groups – as we mentioned, eight villages. That’s what we observed. Four villages have been fully cleared by our forces. We are still fighting for the remaining four,” he said.
In the Lyman direction, the Russians have been restrained in recent days, and the lost position is being restored, the President of Ukraine said.
