Russia’s Orsknaftoorgsintez oil refinery stopped processing crude oil on Tuesday, August 11, after a fire caused by an attack by Ukrainian drones.
Reuters reported this, citing two industry sources, Ukrinform said.
The drones reportedly attacked the refinery, located about 1,900 km from the border with Ukraine. Ukrainian military officials confirmed the attack.
According to Reuters sources, the strike damaged some of the refinery’s units. Forteinvest, which owns the facility, did not respond to the agency’s request for comment.
The nominal capacity of Orsknaftoorgsintez is 5.76 million tonnes of oil per year, or about 115,200 barrels per day.
According to sources, in 2024 the plant processed 4.2 million tonnes of crude oil. The facility produced 1.8 million tonnes of diesel fuel, 600,000 tonnes of gasoline, 500,000 tonnes of bitumen, and 200,000 tonnes of fuel oil.
