On 10 August, filming of Snake Island, a film by American director Doug Liman about the Nord Stream gas pipeline leaks, was under way in central Zagreb, Danas reported.
During filming, “armed” men wearing Ukrainian military uniforms were seen outside the Esplanade hotel, while barricades and sandbags were set up along nearby Mihanovića Street.
Oscar winner Adrien Brody and American actor Sean Penn were also spotted at the location.
Snake Island will tell the story of the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines from Russia to Germany in the Baltic Sea. The film will centre on a covert team of Ukrainian divers. The release date has not yet been announced.

On 9 July 2026, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office said it had not established Ukrainian involvement in the Nord Stream explosions at that stage of the investigation.
