The SBU’s Main Directorate of Internal Security is stepping up efforts to combat Russian agents, leaks of official information and corruption schemes within the security service.

Since the start of 2026, 186 criminal proceedings have been opened on the basis of materials from the SBU’s internal security unit, within which 151 people have been served with notices of suspicion. Among them are 48 SBU officials.
“Purging the SBU of Russian agents, traitors and corrupt officials is the key to the Security Service’s successful and effective work. This is one of the most important issues and is under my personal control,” said SBU head Major General Oleksandr Poklad.
He said that, regardless of the suspects’ positions, ranks or past заслуги, they can expect a tough response. At the same time, the SBU plans to strengthen protection for its staff against attempts by Russian special services to strike at them.
In the past week alone, SBU internal security officers uncovered five crimes linked to the transfer of official information to the enemy and surveillance of employees of Ukraine’s security service.
In Odesa Region, an SBU employee was exposed who, according to the investigation, was recruited by Russian special services. He passed secret information to the enemy about servicemen of the Defence Forces and law enforcement officers.
In Kyiv Region, a notary was exposed who, according to investigators, searched for information about SBU employees in state information resources and passed it to Russian citizens linked to Russian special services.
In Zhytomyr Region, an SBU employee was detained on suspicion of passing data from law enforcement information systems to unauthorised individuals.
In Kyiv Region, a man was detained who sold conscripts forged IDs resembling SBU documents.
In Zakarpattia, the SBU’s internal security unit, together with the State Bureau of Investigation, served notices of suspicion on two serving employees of the Service. According to the investigation, they organised the illegal smuggling of conscripts across the state border outside official crossing points.
The suspects are accused, among other things, of high treason, espionage, illegal transportation of persons across the state border, violation of privacy and receiving an unlawful benefit.
Depending on the classification of the offences, the suspects could face up to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Pre-trial investigations are ongoing, and comprehensive measures are being carried out by officers of the Main Directorate of Internal Security together with law enforcement agencies under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
