Based on materials from the Security Service of Ukraine, an FSB agent who set fire to a Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinet in Vinnytsia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, the man prepared for the sabotage in advance. He changed clothes in his own garage and then walked more than 10 kilometres to the railway facility, altering his route and avoiding CCTV cameras.

The saboteur was detained in March 2025 – within 48 hours of the arson attack – at his place of residence.

As the investigation established, the convicted man was a local contract serviceman who had absconded from his military unit and gone into hiding. He later began looking for odd jobs in Telegram channels, where he came to the attention of the Russian special service.

On the FSB’s instructions, the man was to destroy a relay cabinet on a local railway line in order to disrupt freight logistics.

To carry out the arson, he bought firelighter from a DIY store, poured it into an empty water bottle, then doused the power equipment with the flammable mixture and set it alight. The agent filmed the blaze on his phone to send a video report to his Russian handlers.

During searches, law enforcement officers seized the clothing the man wore while carrying out the sabotage, as well as a smartphone containing evidence of collaboration with the enemy.

The court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – sabotage under martial law – and Part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – unauthorised absence from a military unit.

The investigation was conducted by SBU officers in Vinnytsia Region together with the National Police, under the procedural supervision of the Vinnytsia Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Defence in the Southern Region.
