Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Russia is showing no readiness to agree to the energy ceasefire proposed by the United States.
The head of state wrote about this on the social network X.
"It is becoming increasingly clear that Russia does not want to agree to the energy ceasefire proposed by the United States and intends to continue its terrorist air attacks against our people and communities. Today alone, the Russians attacked six energy facilities in Ukraine. Across the country, 33 people were injured," Zelenskyy said.
The President called for increased pressure on Russian entities, in particular those involved in producing ballistic missiles and Shahed-type drones.
Zelenskyy also thanked European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and EU member states for adopting a new package of sanctions against Russia’s military-industrial complex.
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump said that an energy truce in the war between Russia and Ukraine "takes effect immediately".
Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready not to strike Russia’s energy sector, and is counting on Russia showing the same readiness and on an agreement with the US President.
- Russia has repeatedly agreed to various ceasefires, mostly local or thematic, but has consistently violated them. None has been fully implemented. For example, at the end of March last year, Ukraine and Russia committed to halt mutual strikes on energy infrastructure for 30 days.
- The temporary moratorium was negotiated with US mediation. However, Russia immediately violated this ceasefire. Read more in the LB.ua article "Did the Energy Truce Really Collapse? Key Takeaways".
