On 17 October, Vinnytsia lost electricity as a result of another Russian attack. Specialists are assessing the extent of the damage. The city’s critical facilities have been switched to backup power.
This was reported by Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov on his Telegram channel.
According to him, due to the lack of electricity the city’s electric public transport will be temporarily out of service. More buses and minibuses will be put on routes instead.
“If the internet goes down, turn on the radio station ‘City Above the Southern Bug’ on 101.8 FM to get information,” he added.
Vinnytsiaoblenergo noted that damage to a substation led to a large-scale power outage. Emergency crews are currently continuing restoration work. According to the company, electricity supply is gradually being restored. Power engineers stress that the volume of work is significant, but specialists are making every effort to restore power to the city’s residents as quickly as possible.
Due to the lack of electricity, the main water pumping station has stopped operating. This was also reported by Vinnytsia Vodokanal.
The utility explained that the station’s operations will be restored as the power supply returns. The water utility also noted that generators cannot power the high-voltage line that supplies the main station. Therefore, backup power does not make it possible to maintain water supply across the entire city in the event of a complete power outage.
