Romania’s Parliament has approved a new government line-up led by Luca Niculescu after prolonged disputes between MPs.
In favour of the decision were 280 MPs, while 58 voted against, Digi24 reports.
This brings to an end a political crisis in the country that had lasted for more than five months.
The newly elected ministers are taking the oath at Cotroceni Palace. Immediately afterwards, Prime Minister Luca Niculescu plans to hold the first meeting of the new Cabinet at Victoria Palace.
The head of government thanked Parliament for its confidence and stressed that Romania can no longer wait, so officials are getting to work immediately.
- In September, Siegfried Mureșan’s government failed to secure the required 233 votes for parliamentary approval.
- As a result, President Nicușor Dan was forced to look for a new candidate for prime minister in order to avoid dissolving Parliament and deepening Romania’s political crisis.
