LB.ua has once again been included in the list of Ukrainian online media outlets with the highest level of compliance with journalistic standards. The highest compliance was also demonstrated by Suspilne, Hromadske, Babel, Ukrinform, Slovo i Dilo, Novynarnia, Ukrainska Pravda, LIGA.net, ZN.UA and Espreso.
In these outlets, more than 95% of the news items studied meet professional requirements. This is stated in the results of an analysis of standards in the third quarter of the year conducted by the Institute of Mass Information.
“Violations are mostly isolated and relate to insufficient attribution of information, the uncritical reproduction of assumptions and assessments. At the same time, even among the leaders, the monitoring identified editorial practices that need to be corrected,” the summary says.
The most common problem for Ukrainian online media, as in the previous monitoring, remains breaches of the standard of separating facts from commentary. This refers to emotional headlines, exaggerations, unattributed assessments and assumptions presented as established facts.
“The decline in adherence to professional journalistic standards in Ukrainian online media has continued. Negative dynamics were recorded across all three standards studied. The indicator for maintaining a balance of opinions and viewpoints deteriorated the most, while the level of reliability remained almost unchanged. The most problematic issue for newsrooms continues to be separating facts from commentary: breaches of this standard occur in almost every sixth news item,” the Institute of Mass Information concluded.
