Ukraine, together with the United Kingdom and Latvia, has signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding on implementing a Grain Verification Scheme (GVS).

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported this.

In this way, the countries want to identify Ukrainian agricultural products that Russia is illegally removing from temporarily occupied territories and block their sale on global markets.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy explained that the system will make it possible to determine the precise geographical origin of wheat, maize, barley and sunflower seeds through isotopic and chemical analysis. The scientific data collected will help expose vessels carrying suspicious cargo and build an evidence base regarding instances of looting.

Under the signed agreement, the countries plan to exchange scientific information, provide relevant authorities with access to the GVS system, and fully co-ordinate the work of specialised laboratories.
