In the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, cases of Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups infiltrating have been recorded. The hostile groups are trying to gather intelligence on the location of Ukrainian defensive positions and are also laying mines.
State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko said this during a TV broadcast, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, several such incidents have been recorded recently in the border areas of both regions.
"The task of such groups is to find out how our defences are set up, to find out where the positions are. If they succeed, they also try to attack Ukrainian positions with their own forces," Demchenko noted.
He added that during counter-sabotage operations, attempts to mine the area are often detected. During their retreat, Russian troops try to plant explosive devices so that Ukrainian defenders will be blown up by them.
To detect hostile sabotage and reconnaissance groups in time, the Defence Forces use drones. Border guards also receive preliminary intelligence about possible infiltration attempts by sabotage and reconnaissance groups in certain directions and carry out counter-sabotage measures.
Separately, Demchenko reported on the situation in the Kharkiv region, where Russian forces are trying to expand their zone of control.
"The enemy is trying to destroy the positions held by Ukrainian defenders, hoping that later infantry groups will be able to advance more easily. But once again, the enemy is suffering heavy losses," the spokesperson said.
