A US F-16 fighter jet intercepted a civilian aircraft that entered the temporary flight restriction zone over the Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, where US President Donald Trump has a residence, without authorisation.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) reported the incident.
According to the command, the military aircraft was scrambled to identify the civilian plane and establish visual contact with it.
The F-16 crew carried out a standard signalling manoeuvre to get the pilot’s attention and establish radio contact. After making contact with the military pilots, the civilian pilot followed the instructions given and left the restricted airspace.
- In recent years, Trump has faced several assassination attempts. The first took place at a rally in Pennsylvania during the election campaign. The then presidential candidate was shot at and suffered an ear injury. The gunman was killed.
- A second attack was being planned last year in Palm Beach, where Trump plays golf. Security services detained a man who, according to law enforcement, was preparing to shoot Trump.
